Autograph Authentication

At VFB, literature is our life. We strive to deliver the very best to our discerning clients and collectors throughout every step of the process—from our selection of the finest acquisitions, to the moment your collectible volumes arrive at your door, and beyond.

100% Lifetime Guarantee of Signature Authenticity

When we say "autographed book" or "signed book", that's precisely what we mean. We offer a lifetime autograph authenticity guarantee for every signed book in our catalog. Our autographed collectors' editions are never facsimiles, stamps, or auto-pens. Each volume has been personally hand-signed by the author directly into the book, or directly onto the special publisher issued title or limitation page—many with personalized inscriptions for friends, family, or fans.

In making a determination of the signature authenticity, we consider a wide range of writing analysis tests including writing surface, writing instrument, ink comparisons, area measurements and slant, pen pressure and angle, letter size and formation, flow, and other similar characteristics. Our signed books are certified as authentic and will pass authentication by the PSA/DNA, AMA, or any other company that specializes in autograph authentication services. If for any reason you determine that the autograph is not genuine, please return the book for a full refund.

Publisher Issued COAs

The COA is typically issued by the artist, the gallery, or the publisher and includes details like the edition number, the size of the edition, and the materials used. It serves as a guarantee of the work's authenticity and can be important for valuation and resale.

A publisher-issued Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a document provided by the publisher of a book, artwork, collectible, or similar item to verify its authenticity. This certificate typically includes information about the item, such as its edition, serial number, and any special characteristics, and is signed or authorized by the publisher or a representative.

For books, a COA might confirm that a particular copy is a limited edition or has been signed by the author. For artworks or collectibles, it often serves to verify that the item is an original or limited edition, rather than a reproduction or counterfeit. The COA helps ensure the item's provenance and can enhance its value for collectors and buyers.

Not all Signed First Editions, Signed Limited Editions, Signed Lettered Editions, or Signed Artist Editions include a COA by the publisher. However, they are still certified as genuine.

An example of a publisher-issued COA. This one is from Easton Press, "a world-leader in the design and development of fine leather-bound books, stamped on the spine with 22kt gold." This COA includes the date, author signature, witness signature, and also signature by the publisher. Even though they are certified authentic, not all Easton Press signed books include a COA.
