Deluxe Leather-Bound Edition of 1640, featuring the original vintage map

Easton Press, Norwalk CT. 2024. Thomas Fuller "The Historie Of The Holy Warre". Traycased Deluxe Limited Edition of 1,000 hand-numbered copies. A stunning reproduction of 1640, featuring the original vintage map. This is the first modern full-length account of the Crusades written in English. Very Fine, sealed without any flaws. Dimensions: 7" x 11 1/4". 336pp.

This edition fully reproduces the 1640 edition, complete with the reproduction of a rare hand-colored map and includes a clamshell traycase.

This production features an even higher level of quality than the regular cherished Deluxe Limited Edition by the same publisher. It includes cowhide leathers imported from Italy by Cortina leathers, Mohawk Via Felt Natural paper by Mohawk Paper Mills inc., lithography by Falcon Press, and custom clam shell case by Dominion Carton. The multi tone leather details and larger size make it a truly impressive showpiece.

"Thomas Fuller was incomparably the most sensible, the least prejudiced, great man of an age that boasted a galaxy of great men” (Samuel Coleridge). He was not only one of his day’s most popular preachers but also one of its most prolific and well-known writers; indeed, he was “one of the first authors in England to earn his living by his pen” (Kunitz & Haycraft, 206).

Fuller’s comprehensive but by no means uncritical history of the Crusades was first published in 1639: in his judgment, the Crusades “spent European lives and wealth for nothing more than a faraway plot of land and a few relics” (Madden, 3).

Fuller’s “heart was in his writing, and on his death-bed he asked for pen and ink” (Kunitz & Haycraft, 207).
