Very Fine Guaranteed / For The Picky Book Collector

If you are a picky book collector like us, then rest assured because the signed books chosen for this special slip-cased limited edition of 50 are Very Fine & mint without any discernible flaws. We use a quality assurance (QA) system and inspection procedure to ensure that the books delivered to our customers meet the top level grading requirements.

VERY FINE is the highest grade given to any copy. It is a term that describes a crisp fresh unread copy and it admits no flaws. Any copy with even a minor blemish must not be graded Very Fine. Books of this criteria are to be free of any flaws, including marks, writing, stamps, wear, bumped corners, and attached bookplates. Please note that “mint” or “as new” or “New” may be used in the place of “very fine.” While we feel that “very fine” is more precise, there is nothing improper in the use of those terms in description.

The Martian

Before Matt Damon, it was a book. Thought dead by his crew, astronaut Mark Watney is left stranded on Mars. In a tale of survival and the indomintability of the human will, this will feel surprisingly close to home.

In 2014, Andy Weir took readers on an incredible journey of human ingenuity and perseverance, hailed by the Wall Street Journal as “the purest example of sci-fi.” This hardcover edition celebrates the book that set our sights on Mars and inspired the major motion picture starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain.

A mission to Mars. A freak accident. One man's struggle to survive.

After a dust storm nearly kills Mark Watney and forces his crew to evacuate the planet while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded on Mars' surface, completely alone, with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive. And even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone years before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, Mark won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark's not ready to quit. Armed with nothing but his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a gallows sense of humor that proves to be his greatest source of strength—he embarks on a dogged quest to stay alive. As he confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next, Mark begins to let himself believe he might make it off the planet alive. But Mars has plenty of surprises in store for him yet.

More about "The Martian"

The Martian is a 2011 science fiction debut novel written by Andy Weir. The book was originally self-published on Weir's blog, in a serialized format. In 2014, the book was re-released after Crown Publishing Group purchased the exclusive publishing rights. The story follows an American astronaut, Mark Watney, as he becomes stranded alone on Mars in 2035 and must improvise in order to survive.

A film adaptation, The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon, was released in October 2015.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE

A mission to Mars. A freak accident. One man’s struggle to survive. From the author of Project Hail Mary comes “a hugely entertaining novel that reads like a rocket ship afire” (Chicago Tribune).

“Brilliant . . . a celebration of human ingenuity [and] the purest example of real-science sci-fi for many years . . . utterly compelling.”—The Wall Street Journal

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

NAMED ONE OF PASTE’S BEST NOVELS OF THE DECADE

“As gripping as they come . . . You’ll be rooting for Watney the whole way, groaning at every setback and laughing at his pitchblack humor. Utterly nail-biting and memorable.”—Financial Times
