About The Wizard of Oz

Originally published in 1900, The Wizard of Oz was the first truly American fairy tale, as Baum crafted a wonderful out of such familiar items as a cornfield scarecrow, a mechanical woodman, and a humbug wizard who used old-fashioned hokum to express that universal theme, "There's no place like home."

Follow the adventures of young Dorothy Gale and her dog, Toto, as their Kansas house is swept away by a cyclone and they find themselves in a strange land called Oz. Here she meets the Munchkins and joins the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion on an unforgettable journey to the Emerald City, where lives the all-powered Wizard of Oz.

About L. Frank Baum

Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856 – May 6, 1919) was an American author that wrote children's books. He was best known for writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He wrote thirteen novel sequels, nine other fantasy novels, and a host of other works. He wrote 55 novels in total plus four "lost" novels, 82 short stories, over 200 poems, an unknown number of scripts. He also had many miscellaneous writings and made numerous attempts to bring his works to the stage and screen.

His works predicted such century-later commonplaces as television, laptop computers (The Master Key), wireless telephones (Tik-Tok of Oz), and the ubiquity of advertising on clothing (Aunt Jane's Nieces at Work).
