Rogues is a cross-genre anthology featuring 21 original short stories from various authors, edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois, and released on June 17, 2014.
Of the book Martin said, "We’ve got something for everyone in Rogues … SF, mystery, historical fiction, epic fantasy, sword and sorcery, comedy, tragedy, crime stories, mainstream. And rogues, cads, scalawags, con men, thieves, and scoundrels of all descriptions. If you love Harry Flashman and Cugel the Clever, as I do, this is the book for you."
The anthology as a whole was nominated for the 2015 World Fantasy Award for Best Anthology and won the 2015 Locus Award for best anthology. Gillian Flynn's contribution to this anthology -- "What Do You Do?"—won the Edgar Award for short story, 2015. It was later republished in hardcover, under the title "The Grownup".
“Not a single bad story in the bunch . . . The table of contents alone will make fans from all genre aisles salivate.”—Library Journal
Rogues (2014)
Dust jacket and interior illustrations by Ken Laager
Featuring some of the hottest names in fiction—including New York Times bestsellers Gillian Flynn, Neil Gaiman, and Patrick Rothfuss (with a novella set in the world of The Name of the Wind), PLUS a new Song of Ice and Fire novelette by George R. R. Martin.
Everybody loves a rogue…though sometimes we live to regret it. In this anthology each of the contributors was asked for a story about a rogue, full of deft twists, cunning plans, and reversals. No genre limits were imposed, and while some authors chose to write in the genre they’re best known for, some decided to try something different. So enjoy the read…but do be careful. Some of the ladies and gentleman in these pages are not to be trusted.
All authors have agreed to sign the limited and lettered editions.
Limited: 500 signed numbered copies, housed in a custom illustrated slipcase
Lettered: 26 specially bound copies, housed in a custom illustrated traycase
About the Production:
Rogues promises to be the most gorgeous oversized anthology we’ve ever produced. Ken Laager is slated to produce an original header illustration for each tale, and fully illustrate two stories: “The Lightning Tree,” a novella centering on Bast—and featuring Kvothe—from The Name of the Wind, will sport a full color plate and four full-page interior black-and-white illustrations. George R. R. Martin’s contribution, set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, will be illuminated by eight black-and-white illustrations as well as a full-color plate. The dust jacket’s focus will be squarely on Joe Abercrombie’s “Tough Times All Over”, which contains more rogues per page than any other tale, and an ultra-clever narrative.
