Low Print Rarity

600 Copies: Unlike standard Easton Press reprints that are produced in large or open-ended quantities to meet demand, this Deluxe Limited Edition was capped at a strict 600 hand-numbered copies worldwide.

High Demand for Verne: Jules Verne collectors are aggressive and active in the secondary market, meaning a scarce limitation for a specific title creates immediate supply pressure.

Faithful Historical Reproduction

Vintage Illustrations: Instead of modern or generic artwork, this volume fully reproduces the rare, lavishly illustrated 1875 British first English-language edition.

250 Classic Engravings: It includes approximately 250 vintage illustrations by Édouard Riou, making it an artifact for fans of classic 19th-century book design rather than just a standard text block.

The Adventures of Captain Hatteras

The Adventures of Captain Hatteras (French: Voyages et Aventures du capitaine Hatteras) is an 1866 adventure novel by Jules Verne in two parts: The English at the North Pole (French: Les Anglais au pôle Nord) and The Desert of Ice (French: Le Désert de glace).

The novel was published for the first time in 1864 as a serial in the French magazine named Magasin d'éducation et de récréation [fr]. The definitive version from 1866 was included in the Voyages extraordinaires series ("The Extraordinary Voyages"). Although it was the first book of the series, it was labelled as number two. Three of Verne's books from 1863 to 1865 (Five Weeks in a Balloon, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, and From the Earth to the Moon) were added into the series retroactively. The character of Captain Hatteras shows many similarities with the English naval explorer Sir John Franklin.

Jules Verne

Jules Gabriel Verne (8 February 1828 – 24 March 1905)[3] was a French novelist, poet, and playwright.

His collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel led to the creation of the Voyages extraordinaires, a series of bestselling adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1872). His novels are generally set in the second half of the 19th century, taking into account contemporary scientific knowledge and the technological advances of the time.

In addition to his novels, he wrote numerous plays, short stories, autobiographical accounts, poetry, songs, and scientific, artistic and literary studies. His work has been adapted for film and television since the beginning of cinema, as well as for comic books, theater, opera, music and video games.

Verne is considered to be an important author in France and most of Europe, where he has had a wide influence on the literary avant-garde and on surrealism. His reputation was markedly different in the Anglosphere where he had often been labeled a writer of genre fiction or children's books, largely because of the highly abridged and altered translations in which his novels have often been printed. Since the 1980s, his literary reputation has improved.

Jules Verne has been the second most-translated author in the world since 1979, ranking below Agatha Christie and above William Shakespeare. He has sometimes been called the "father of science fiction", a title that has also been given to H. G. Wells and Hugo Gernsback.[7] In the 2010s, he was the most translated French author in the world. In France, 2005 was declared "Jules Verne Year" on the occasion of the centenary of the writer's death.
